چکیده

IN an endeavour to potentiate the effect of pethidine and scopolamine premedication, the drugs chlorpromazine and hydergine were investigated, particularly in regard to their effects on the autonomic nervous system. A comparison was made between three comparable series of patients. One series acted as a control and the other series had chlorpromazine and hydergine respectively. Changes in pulse rate and blood pressure, the presence of sweating and a clinical assessment of the effectiveness of the premedication were employed to estimate the value of the addition of the two drugs.

Sedation for ophthalmic surgery: combination of chlorpromazine, promezathine, and pethidine.

DESPITE regional blocks, retro-bulbar injections, and pre-operative barbiturate sedation, intra-ocular surgery can still be a hazardous procedure. Heptabarbitone as a Pre-operative Sedative.

There are advantages to be gained from using an oral barbiturate as a pre-operative sedative. Heptabarbitone (Medomin) has been given in a dose of 400 mg to fifty healthy patients undergoing minor gynaecological operations. Using a scoring system, the sedative effects of diis drug have been measured and found to be comparable with the sedation produced by papaveretum 20 mg and hyoscine 0.4 mg a...

Chlorpromazine in ocular surgery.

IN INDLA cataract surgery is a major problem. We consider any person above 60 years of age as a potential cataract patient if he is not one already. Through lack of education, the cooperation of the patient in intra-ocular surgery is not all one would like it to be, and it is therefore best not to rely on the patient's cooperation but to administer suitable sedatives. Chlorpromazine promises to...

Clinical Studies of Induction Agents. Viii. a Comparison of the Effects of Atropine and Hyoscine on the Course and Sequelae of Thiopentone Anaesthesia.

A standard operative procedure and anaesthetic technique were employed to compare the effects of 0.6 mg atropine and 0.4 mg hyoscine, given as part or all of premedication, on the course of thiopentone anaesthesia. The incidence and severity of muscle movement following induction was increased by the use of hyoscine, but not to the same extent as previously found with methohexitone. This effect...

Studies of drugs given before anaesthesia. XIX. The opiates.

Using Ridit analysis, a comparison was made of the overall effects of what are generally considered to be equianalgesic doses of sixteen opiates, with respect to their desired and toxic effects when given as premedication to a standard population. Four mixtures of opiates, the non-opiate diazepam and saline were also included in the analysis. Results with all individual drugs have been previous...
